Florence Junction is home to many of the most challenging and scenic trails in arizona. Our adventure began just north of florence, at the beginning of price road. We continued through box canyon, which remains one of the most beautiful trails in Arizona. After completing the box, several of us tried the optional climb near the windmill. Tire lifts were had by all.

We continued on to Martinez Cabin, where Stephanie and I dropped the trailer. We made the short hike to the Martinez Mine / Mill, and enjoyed looking at the well preserved structures, including several steam engines.

We continued on to the Coke Ovens via the more challenging southern route, and successfully negotiated the steps and shelf roads. Stephanie piloted the Discovery all the way to the ovens, and impressed all in attendance. After seeing the ovens, we took the battle ax trial to the gila river. the greatest challenges of the day occurred IN the river, with water coming over the hood of the discovery. The exit from the river required solid driving to prevent vehicle damage.

The route out proved long, with the Discovery requiring Doron and I to reset the bead on the tire before continuing home.

A great day with lots of challenge and adventure!
