This was a pre-run of the famous Rubicon Trail in early June. Most indications were that the trail would be closed, but since I was in the area on a fishing trip, i I wanted to get a look at the trail before my trip in the Jeep scheduled for August. We accessed the trail from the Tahoe side in an attempt to make Observation Point, and possibly Rubicon Springs, depending on trail conditions. We started off of Highway 89 and McKinney-Rubicon Road. We spent some time in the OHV staging area, and continued on. There was a nice water crossing at Mckinney Creek. The snow drifts came soon after. The drifts grew progressively deeper after passing Miller Lake. Just short of Observation Point we encountered several deep, off-camber drifts, that also headed up hill. As we were traveling alone, without a winch the trip was over. It looked as if several vehicles had at least been DOWN the hill by the tire tracks that were present. This trip only fueled my desire to return with more aggressive hardware.

Trail Rating: 3+ (1-5 scale)

Note: This is not the rating of the complete Rubicon, just the portion we traveled
