...It should have been called AZMud 2005, as trucks slide through camp throwing mud on any vehicle or person in its wake. no clean surface or Jeep owner was safe...

I arrived in camp mid day on Friday to dry conditions, and few drivers. Most groups were still completing the days runs to Axel Alley, Elvis, Woodpecker and others. I set up my Jumping Jack Tent trailer, which attracted a few interested parties, and I spent the rest of the afternoon talking with those left in camp and looking at the vehicles still there.

Kirk's Double cab is awesome. He retained Toyota based axle components from Diamond Axle, and installed a clean and simple spring over axle front suspension. The 37" Interco's matched with the trucks long wheelbase makes for an easy traverse of the areas 4+ trails.

The camp was filled with great looking trucks, many with unique modifications to suit their trail taste. There were probaby as many Tacoma's with solid axle conversions as without.
Copper State Cruisers: Coke Ovens Clean-up

The Copper State Cruisers where also in camp for a Coke Oven's clean-up run. They were out in the rain and cold maintaining and cleaning this well used trail. They deserve a great deal of respect for their efforts, and trail cleaning and maintenance help to keep our trails open. They also had a nice fleet of vehicles, including several FZJ80's, FJ40's, Tacoma's and even a few Jeeps. DesertDude was part of the group and also enjoy's expedition travel. I really liked his choice of color and accessories :-). One of the groups FZJ80's suffered a roll-over in the wet conditions on the road near Martinez Canyon.

They were a great group!

Friday night and Saturday turned to rain, with strong winds. There was a slight break in the weather Saturday morning, followed by a strong storm, sending everyone under tarps or in their vehicles. To me, it seemed like a perfect time to hit the trail, and I assembed a group of 8 Tacoma's to run the Coke Ovens, Box Canyon loop. Read the trip report HERE:

The event ended with a great dinner on Saturday night prepared by 4xChef. With the help of Extreme Outback Products I was able to donate several tow straps and no-loss valve caps. In addition, other vendors donated shackles, sliders, bumpers (like Demello Off-road) and gift certificates.
